Do I need gum contouring?
Gum contouring is a cosmetic procedure, used in our smile makeover treatments to correct uneven gums. Patients with too much gum, too little, and receding gum are appropriate for this treatment. Gummy smile is a term diagnosed to patients with a higher ratio of gum to smile. Gum contouring can largely benefit these patients.
Receding gums can be an indicator of gum disease. If the roots of the tooth are exposed by receding gums, the tooth carries more risk of dental issues arising, such as: decay, cavities, sensitivity and losing the tooth. Gum contouring may help to slow down such issues.

How long does gum contouring take?
Gum contouring procedure takes approximately 1 to 2 hours to complete depending on the patient’s contouring requirement and treatment method.
Patients will experience mild sensitivity over the next 3 days and can expect healing to take 1 to 2 weeks depending on the amount of treatment involved.
How do I take care of my gums after gum contouring treatment?
Patients will need to eat a diet of soft foods including soups, yoghurt and eggs and should avoid hard & dry foods that can agitate and roughen the healing site.
Brush very gently using a soft-bristled brush and use a non-alcoholic or salty water mouthwash. Careful attention to diet foods and dental hygiene will allow the gums to heal within a week or two.
Avoid smoking and drinking as they can restrict blood flow and healing factors to the gums, delaying healing and allowing bacteria to settle by the gum.
Are there different methods of gum contouring?

Using the laser treatment, uneven gums can be balanced and small abnormalities are removed. Surgical gum lifting is preferred by dentists to treat more difficult conditions, like gum disease.
